The purpose of this blog is
twofold. First, this blog will serve as a "home base" for my
independent study which will cross-pollinate between the areas of Gifted
and Talented/Advanced/High Capacity students (specifically, program development, implementation, and enhancement) and S.T.E.A.M.
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Secondly, my
hope is for this blog to represent an extension of my personal academic
philosophies as a student and teacher...an online "portfolio" of my
work, if you will.
All of
the strands of my blog will feature a common theme - gifted and
talented education. I'm very passionate about gifted/advanced students
for many reasons, primarily because our nation has an amazing opportunity to serve the needs of our brightest young minds. Additionally, I feel that many of the teaching strategies
which are effective for gifted and talented students can be applied successfully to all types of students in a differentiated classroom learning environment.
I
hope to achieve three outcomes by starting this blog. The first
outcome is to compile information and research which will contribute to
the culminating project for my independent study - to share in a
professional forum. Second,
I hope to challenge my preconceptions and learn something new! Finally, once my project is complete, I hope to transition this blog from a graduate student project to a
centralized place where I can share information with other teachers, my
past and future students, and their families.
